Penn-Jersey District Care Winners
What are Care Winners?
The Penn-Jersey District of the American Rose Society
has over the years has developed a grouping of roses,
grown by the members, that are free or relatively free of
care. This does not mean neglect, but these roses
require little or no spraying to perform nicely in our
region's gardens. They still need appropriate fertilization
and watering.
For more about these project click below to view Father
Gervase Gegenhardt's report to the district published
originally in the May 2006 Rose Vine.

Criteria for selection
Garden Friendly: Establishes readily in the
garden
Vigorous: Grows with usual fertilization and
care, not special treatment
Abundant bloom: Bloom quality and number are
acceptable, not stingy.
No spraying required: May benefit from
spraying, but clearly immune or tolerant to
blackspot
Other beneficial criteria: These are not
required, but desirable: fragrance, self-trimming,
and mildew resistant. Exhibition potential is not a
factor(meaning good form that would win ribbons
at a show is not required).
The following is a partial listing of the rose
qualifying in the Penn-Jersey District:
(Webmasters note: this list is complied from reports
submitted the members and has not been established by any
scientific methods. No research trials have been conducted to
verify the findings. A rose may be quite resistant to disease in
one garden and susceptible in another.)
