| The Pittsburgh Rose Society is once again an active participant in the gardening experts section of this year's Home and Garden Show. The annual event, with a estimated 300,000+ attendance, runs through Sunday March 16. This has in the past proved to be an excellent venue for us to get out the word about growing roses. At various assigned times during the show our members will assist the Bidwell Training center by selling their Pittsburgh grown orchids. A portion of each sale goes to support the Society. That's why Dolores is smiling so broadly at the camera while showing one of the plant offerings at the 2007 show. The specimens are in flower and should do well, having been grown exclusively at the Center's Manchester Greenhouse. The Bidwell garden space, which we share, features 2008 roses, miniature roses forced into bloom at the Manchester greenhouse and photographs of the Renziehausen Rose Garden. The theme of the display is "The Maze of Green". Environmentally friendly gardening is the thrust of the display. As last year, anyone who signs up as a new Pittsburgh Rose Society member will receive a potted miniature rose a thank you for joining. |
